Bipasha has no regrets for not working with Khans

    By: Faisal Saif

Bong Beauty Bipasha Basu who is going out of her for promoting Aatma which releases this week and is a supernatural thriller has said that she does not regret not working with the three big Khans of Bollywood.

`I don't regret it. I have been in the industry for 14 years now and I am here to do what I want to do, ` says Bipasha Basu.

Aatma is the second film in the supernatural genre in the last year. Bipasha is also turning out to be the super favorite of Film maker's who are attracted in making Horror/Supernatural films.

For this, The actress quickly adds `Well, the genre might be the same but the characters I play are different from each other. In fact, a lot of actors don't go out-of-the-box, but I do. I do the irregular roles. "

The actress is presently in Delhi to promote her film and will be soon landing in Mumbai for it's release. We hope, Aatma becomes successful in adding another Super-Hit in Bipasha's cap. There's so much more for women to do in Bollywood: Bipasha Basu Actress Bipasha Basu feels there are not good enough roles for women in Bollywood, and that there is still so much more that women can do in the field.

"We have not done enough. There is so much more to do. We all talk about the Oscars and the Golden Globes. Every actress over there is above 40 years of age. The kind of roles written for women there are just so brilliant. It's not like we will not accept those films here. It is a matter of time," Bipasha said in an interaction here.

Nevertheless, she admits the change in taste is visibly better.

"Now the best thing is that married actresses are being accepted. At one point of time, we were not even supposed to say that 'I have a boyfriend'. Things have changed now," she said.

With newer films being accepted nowadays, Bipasha credits the audience. She feels that different films are being liked today due to the audience's demand.

"It is only because of the people who watch these. The more you watch these films, the more eyeballs they get and the more these films will be made," she said.

After being a part of masala films like "No Entry", "Phir Hera Pheri" and "Dhoom 2", Bipasha seems to have moved on to different genres. The actress feels that a commercial film is a safe bet, but that doesn't stop her from experimenting.

"I have done these films. I can't say that I am the brave one who hasn't. But fortunately or unfortunately, for me, safe does not work. When I want a break, I will do such films again," she said.

Last seen in Vikram Bhatt's "Raaz 3", Bipasha will soon be seen in Suparn Verma's "Aatma" next. The actress said that she doesn't want to be a part of only horror films, but admits it would have been "foolish" let good scripts slip by just because of some similarities.

The actress also revealed that she gets offered many horror films on a weekly basis, but doesn't take up everything.

B.A. Pass: Here`s India`s first erotic drama with explicit content

The film arguably India's first erotic drama with explicit content, 'A' certification from the Censor Board without a single cut

Remember the 2010 film Gandu directed by Q (Qaushiq Mukherjee) that never hit the marquee in India? The Censor Board found it too sexually charged and halted the film's release. However, a similar independent film has managed to bag just an 'A' certificate and is all set to release by the end of May later this year.

BA Pass, arguably India's first erotic drama with explicit content, went through the Censors without a single cut. Directed by Ajay Bahl, it evaded axe despite strong sexual overtures. No wonder the director himself is pleasantly astonished.

`This one came as a surprise especially because there is huge built up around censorship in our country. They are viewed as moral police and I was extremely apprehensive about the entire process as such films can be easy targets. Besides, a single cut on my film would mean a blow to the overall flow,` sighs Bahl.

In 2012, the indie film has done the rounds at festival circuits across the world and even won the Best Film Award at Osian's Cinefan Film Festival. Starring Shilpa Shukla, Rajesh Sharma and Dibyendu Bhattacharya, the film's screentime is 95 minutes and about 22 minutes is spent on lovemaking scenes!

The visibly relieved debutant filmmaker adds, `Like most directors, I too felt that there was no room for editing left in my film. We waited outside the Censor Board office while the show was on. And when we were called in, I was quite tense but it all eased out when they declared a no-cut. I was expecting the adult certification which is justified.`

    Modelling tough life: Bipasha

When Bipasha Basu walked the ramp Tuesday at the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Summer-Resort 2013, it reminded her of her modelling days and she said it's not an easy career

The 34-year-old, who turned to acting with "Ajnabee" in 2001, walked the ramp for Shantanu-Nikhil and looked spectacular in a fitted long navy blue gown with a plunging neckline and long flowy sleeves.

She said: "I have been a model before and it was great to be here again."

"It's great to be back here in front of the fashion fraternity in pretty clothes. Fashion week is good because so many designers get to showcase their work. I had participated in the first fashion week as a model," Bipasha told media post show.

Recalling her modelling days, the actresses of films like "Raaz", "No Entry" and "Dhoom 2", said: "I always had this fear that my heels will break or come off. And my shoe did come off in one of the shows. But I walked down the ramp, slipped into my shoe and walked till the head ramp. Things happen when you are modelling... it's a tough life."

Bipasha liked Shantanu-Nikhil's collection and said: "The collection is fantastic. Mumbai boys will look even more dapper now."

Titled "The tourist", the clothes range was inspired by travellers keen to discover new destinations.

The looks were chic and stylish with light semi formal jackets and fitted trousers for men, while formal skirts-tops, smart dresses and long flowy gowns were desinged for women.

Adding to the look and feel of the evening was the set, which was transformed into an airport with regular flight announcements during the show.

"The collection is for urban travellers who work hard and part harder," the designer duo said.

Bipasha goes the John Abraham way

Bipasha goes the John Abraham way

Bipasha Basu follows ex flame John Abraham to support the cause of the tiger

Ex-flames Bipasha Basu and John Abraham may have gone along with their respective lives but still believe in espousing a common cause. Last year Johnny boy extended his support to a channel's campaign to celebrate India's national animal, the tiger and highlight its magnificence. This year Bips is doing the same!

Throughout April, the Bong bombshell will be part of the channel's month-long special on the tiger's behaviour, legends and issues related to its survival.

Says an onlooker, `It is amusing to see Bipasha do what John did last year. After their split, both have steered clear of each other. So it was surprising to note that she gave her okay to be part of an initiative which was also endorsed by John!`

Adds the onlooker, `When Bipasha was being considered for an item number in one of his forthcoming films, John made sure that she would not be part of the project. But here he preferred not to meddle and let his former girlfriend also be part of the campaign.`

Along with Bips, this year Ajay Devgn too is part of the endeavour. The actor who features with a tiger in his latest release Himmatwala was apparently roped in for that reason!

Kalki and Anurag`s marriage in trouble due to Huma Qureshi?

Kalki Koechlin slams rumours of her marriage with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap going awry

The grapevine has been abuzz recently with rumours that Anurag Kashyap and his actress wife Kalki Koechlin have been heading towards splitsville. However, the actress of French origin makes it clear that all's well and the couple is very much together.

The rumours gained momentum when Anurag started working with Huma Qureshi in Gangs of Wasseypur. Kalki's absence by her husband's side at public events over the last few months added fuel to fire.

However, Kalki puts all rumours to rest and in no uncertain terms states, `Where do you get this information? Anurag and me are still together!`

Recently a daily wrote about Anurag's growing fondness for Huma, further putting a question mark over their marriage.

Anurag and Kalki's romance blossomed while shooting for Dev D and the director openly admitted his fondness for her. They got married in a private ceremony in April 2011.

Pooja and Ayushmann create record with a two-minute long liplock

Pooja and Ayushmann create record with a two-minute long liplock

Pooja Salvi and Ayushmann Khurrana share a two-minute long liplock in their next 'Nautanki Saala'

Looks like Ayushmann Khurrana can safely take over the tag of sharing the longest on-screen kiss from Aamir Khan. The actor smooched his co-star Pooja Salvi for a full two minute.

The sequence has not been aired in the promos yet but the actress is already anxious for feedback.

`The liplock is not to raise the glamour quotient, the script demanded it. Both Ayushmann and I are introverts by nature, so it was not an easy task. Since I share most of the screen time with him, it eventually became easy to shoot the sequence, ` says Pooja.

According to the director Rohan Sippy, the scene comes at a crucial part of the film. Says Rohan, `We kept that scene at the end of schedule as it was the turning point in the film.

Another significant aspect is that it's for the first time that a woman initiates the smooch in a film. I think it will serve as a good message for the men.

IPL 6 kicks off in style as SRK, Kat, DP set the night alight

In Pics: IPL 6 kicks off in style as SRK, Kat, DP set the night alight

Shah Rukh, Katrina, Deepika and Pitbull set the night alight at IPL opener in Kolkata

The 'City of Joy' opened its heart to the cricket world as a dazzling Bollywood-style opening ceremony kicked off the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Kolkata on Tuesday, with American rapper Pitbull and superstar Shah Rukh Khan stealing the limelight.

Kolkata on Tuesday let its hair down with SRK, Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone grooving to desi moves, leaving the healthy turnout at the Salt Lake Stadium enthralled.

The evening started with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lighting the ceremonial lamp in the presence of a host of dignitaries, which included BCCI president N Srinivasan, vice-president Arun Jaitley, IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla, Cricket Association of Bengal president Jagmohan Dalmiya, besides the cricketers.

Khan, who is also the brand ambassador of the state besides being a co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders, thanked Banerjee for her support and said, "I've always said our performances are in the periphery before the real show (cricket) begins."

It was a flying female performer's acrobatic descend on the dais with the trophy that stunned everybody. The performer handed the trophy to defending champions KKR's skipper Gautam Gambhir.

All the captains beginning with Mahendra Singh Dhoni, skipper of the most successful franchise Chennai Super Kings, signed on the ICC Fair Play pledge.

Flaunting off her toned physique in a shimmery black halter and leather pants with knee-length boots, Padukone made an appearance on the stage from the cutout of her mask as she danced to the tunes of the 'tumi ho tumi ho shakha'.

Shaking a leg to hits like 'Sajday Mein' and 'Angrezi beat' she enlivened the atmosphere by stepping up to a medley of 'Yo Yo Honey Singh' and 'Tumhi Ho' from the hit movie Cocktail.

Upping the glam quotient in a golden cape and headgear reminiscent of an Egyptian pharaoh, Katrina Kaif in her maiden performance in the city arrived grandly onto the ground, seated on an elevated moving platform.

She showcased fluidity through her movements to 'Tera Hone Laga Hoon' as SRK's voice boomed 'Jab Tak hai Jaan's dialogues.

Audiences went wild as she stepped up to hits like 'Sheila ki Jawani', 'Touch Me' with a dash of 'Burn it Up' and 'Masha Allah' in a red harem and black blouse with pink trimming.

She concluded her stellar performance with Laavni steps and music syncd to 'Chikni Chameli in a black ghagra with pink border.

The King Khan kept everybody waiting before making his entry after 45 minutes into the ceremony. Clad in a tightly-fitting biker suit and branded glares, Bollywood's Badshah Khan kept around 50,000 spectators enthralled with a dance performance to his peppy hits.

SRK made a grand entry to the popular 'main hoon don' track with an American chopper for company promising a 'great time' and a 'party' as laser beams cut through the arena lit in fluorescent and blue.

He jived to 'Tumse Milke' with 'Main Hoon Na' booming through the number that saw him doing the signature Qawwali steps. "The IPL is not only about excitement, it brings the happiness wherever we go. I am not going to stop now but will continue to dance to the party," Khan said while dancing to the tunes of 'main hoon naa', 'kuch kuch hota hai', and 'baazigar' among others.

Thanking West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and everyone associated with IPL, Khan broke out to a medley of 'Koi Mil Gaya' and 'Ladki Badi anjaani Hai' surrounded by a clutch of children in colourful gowns who lovingly kissed the superstar leaving bright pink lipstick marks.

Continuing the 'party', Khan grooved to Pitbull's popular party anthem 'Hotel Room' that merged into rhythmic Afro beats of 'Chammak Challo'.

Giving the mixed audience a dose of nostalgia SRK hit off to 'Yeh Kaali Kaali aankhen' and rounding it up with 'Criminal' as he meandered onto the ground.

Khan then invited veteran artists Bappi Lahiri and Usha Utthup, who added to the euphoria with yesteryear hit songs such as 'hari om hari' and 'rambha ho'.

It reached a crescendo when the evening's biggest attraction of them all, Pitbull, took to the stage. The 120,000 capacity football stadium transformed into a magical kaleidoscope of Rabindra Sangeet, Bollywood dance, songs and, above all, unfettered enthusiasm as the 2013 leg formally opened with all the nine team captains taking the ICC Spirit of Cricket Pledge, 'Play hard, play fair'.

Flying drummers, Chinese percussionists, fireworks were the some of the other attractions that were on offer for the event.

After that a collection of balloons rose slowly and smoothly into the hot air above to the sound of drums, music and the cheers of people, with a performer carrying the winner's trophy.

The 1 hour and 45 minute extravaganza, which was high on entertainment, have surely made the 60,000-plus turnout forget the controversial build up cash-rich T20 league.

The opening though, at times, appeared to have fallen short of the standards Khan had promised prior to the event.

Divided into six segments, the evening began with Khan doing a poetic rendition of popular Rabindra Sangeet Aguner Paroshmani with the popular poetry 'Where the mind is without fear " being played in the background.

As is the tournament's wont, the build-up to this edition, too, had been blighted by controversies, but the gala opening has put to rest all apprehensions.
