I never wanted to be an actress: Nargis Fakhri

  • I never wanted to be an actress: Nargis Fakhri

Nargis Fakhri says she was never inclined towards acting, but the "beautiful" script of "Rockstar", her debut movie, propelled her to change her mind.

"I wasn't supposed to be an actress, but when I heard the story of 'Rockstar', I was like 'Oh my god! I so wanted to do this'. (So) acting happened by accident," Nargis told on the sidelines of the launch of the Ultrasmart ME Ultrabook by HCL, Wednesday.

The 32-year-old, who played Ranbir Kapoor's love interest in "Rockstar", was recently named the brand ambassador of HCL Infosystems's computing products.

She feels god has been very kind to her on the professional front.

"I always feel that god has blessed me with many good things in life and he gave me so many wonderful opportunities in my life. I never say no to adventure and this is the reason why I was not able to say no to my debut film, because the story was beautiful. When you feel something in the heart, then you can't say no (to it)," she added.

Nargis looked picture perfect with minimal make-up and a simple, ankle-length dress here.

About her beauty regime, the model-turned-actress said: "I love trying new things so yoga is something that I religiously follow as it refreshes one's mind and soul. I love swimming also as it helps in burning calories.

"Recently, I have also started doing kick-boxing. So I love being active. May be one day, I will go to mountains for hiking," she said, justifying how she loves adventure in her life.

'I wanted to kill Sridevi's husband Boney Kapoor'

`I wanted to kill Sridevi`s husband Boney Kapoor`

Sridevi's ardent fan RGV gets nostalgic as the veteran actress' Bollywood comeback film 'English Vinglish' gets ready for release

My journey to the real Sridevi from being just an obsessively die-hard fan of hers started when I was preparing for my debut film Shiva.

I used to walk from Nagarjuna's office in Chennai to a neighboring street where Sridevi used to live and I used to just stand and watch Sridevi's house from outside her gate.

I just couldn't believe that the goddess of beauty lived in that stupid looking house. I say stupid because I believed that no manmade house deserves to house that beauty called SRIDEVI.

And then after Shiva became a big hit, to my utter disbelief a producer took me to meet her at that very same house where I used to stand outside the gate. It was at night and as luck would have it, there was a power cut in her house.

I was sitting in her living room in candlelight waiting for the angel to appear and my heart was thumping like mad. Her mother told us she was busy packing, as she was about to catch a flight to go to Mumbai.

As I waited, every once in a while Sridevi was rapidly crossing the living room as she was moving from one room to another room in a rush to finish her packing, even as she apologetically smiled at me for the delay. Finally she came and said a matter-of-fact few lines that she would very much like to work with me, and then she left for Mumbai.

I wrote Kshana Kshanam, my Telugu film, as a love letter written to her by me with my camera. In the making of the film, I started discovering her as a person and I realised that she has an invisible wall around her and she does not let anyone cross that.

Also during the course of working with her I began to understand more and more as a director about the nuances of performances and characterizations.

Also through her style I realised that cinematic acting is many times more complex than the so-called method acting.

Her popularity had to be seen to be believed. When we were shooting in a Nandyal, there used to be a crowd of more than 20,000 people the whole night around the bungalow where she was staying.

The crowd just stared at it while she was sleeping in the morning. We used to know that she is coming to the location because of the huge column of dust coming towards us that was caused by the thousands of people running behind her car.

I finished Kshana Kshanam and in due course I have seen her going through a lot of personal tragedies like her father's death and her mother's mental illness.

Suddenly the woman whose company everyone desired was left all alone in the world, till Boney Kapoor stepped into her life and married her. I was one of the few million men in the country who wanted to kill Boney out of sheer jealousy.

Straight from her super stardom and magazine covers, I saw her in Boney's house, serving tea like an ordinary housewife. I hated Boney Kapoor for bringing that angel from heaven down to being just an ordinary housewife. I stopped going to their house because I couldn't bear to see Sridevi in a realistic setting.

So what if Boney has the real Sri in his house? I have her captured in the form of a cinematic goddess in the temple of my mind camera and also as a divine angel in the heart of my celluloid dreams.

I thank God for creating Sridevi and I thank Louis Lumiere for creating the movie camera to capture and contain her beauty forever. I thank Balki and Gauri for bringing her back in such a befitting and wonderful film.

  • Sonakshi wants a simple, beach wedding

Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha says that she wants to be a simple bride whenever she gets married

The actress walked the ramp for designer Jyotsna Tiwari Thursday on the second day of the India Bridal Fashion Week 2012, held in Mumbai. 'I want to be a simple bride when I get married. I want a beach wedding where I am running around on the sand in a white dress,' she said after the show.

The collection was called 'Mystical Romance'. It showcased a variety of bridal pre- draped saris, sari gowns, anarkalis and lehengas in colours like black, gold, amber, coral, blue and red. 'One speciality of this collection is that it is a mix between a modern and a traditional bride,' the actress added.

Sonakshi looked spectacular in a red bridal lehenga-choli with heavy goldwork and gold jewellery. The show was followed by a live advertisement by Saif Ali Khan for Sansui's TV commercial for brush series. The advertisement came as a surprise with fireworks on the ramp and models dancing to peppy music as they came to the head ramp.

The actor looked handsome in a pearl white suit with a baby pink shirt. Laser lights which danced to the music made the show truly memorable. Designer Narendra Kumar Ahmed showcased his collection next. The designer said his collection was inspired by French classical music among other things.

'I was inspired by French classical music of the 1900s. It has been inspired by the elegance of ballet as well. It is about the emotion behind the sound and not the sound itself,' he said after the event.

The collection had bridal wear for men and women as well. With saris, suits and jackets for women and heavy sherwanis and jackets for men. The sets added to the look and feel of both the shows with six chandeliers hanging on the ramp.

    SRK-Katrina's Swiss romance continues

  • SRK-Katrina`s Swiss romance continues

Like his previous films, Yash Chopra's next starring Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif is headed for the Alps

Yash Chopra can be credited for single-handedly making Switzerland one of the most desired destinations for Indian tourists. Some of the filmmaker's cult hits including Chandni, Lamhe and Darr have been shot against the pristine white mountains of the country.

No wonder that for his directorial comeback, Chopra chose Switzerland once again as a backdrop for the Shah Rukh Khan-Katrina Kaif-Anushka Sharma romance.

A source close to the production house tells us, `Yash Chopra doesn't want to leave out his favourite destination this time, as there was no opportunity for him to showcase Switzerland in his last film Veer-Zaara.`

A song based on SRK and Katrina will be shot there and the lyrics of the track have been penned by Gulzar.

Apparently, shooting at the Alps was a last-minute decision and the source adds, `Shah Rukh will fly to Switzerland from Mumbai while Kat, who is currently shooting in Chicago, will leave from there.`

Kareena and Rani don't come face-to-face even once

  • Kareena and Rani don`t come face-to-face even once

'Talaash' co-stars Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji don't come face-to-face even once in the film

Almost everything about Aamir Khan's next production venture is being kept under wraps. And the gimmick has stretched itself to such an extent that even the trailer doesn't give away much

The latest addition to this intriguing development is the ongoing buzz that both Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji who are co-starring in the psychological thriller don't come face-to-face even once in the film.

The recently-released trailer, however, hints at a probable love triangle between the characters played by Aamir, Rani and Kareena. Interestingly, despite the fact that the two shot for about 45-50 days for the film's schedule, not once did they stand under the same roof.

A birdie wonders aloud, `Did director Reema Kagti, who also wrote the script, intentionally do this to keep the script a suspense from not only the usual grapevine but also from the actresses involved?`

Moreover, Rani and Kareena have worked together before in Mujhse Dosti Karoge! Both are known to be extremely cordial towards each other and there is no enmity between them. Another source says, `The only reason they aren't seen together in film is because the script and the story doesn't demand such a scene.`

Priyanka Chopra is high on music

  • Priyanka Chopra is high on music

There aren't many mainstream actresses who sing as well as act. At least not in Bollywood.

In fact, the last personality who fit this bill perfectly was the timeless Suraiya. Priyanka Chopra is well aware of this challenge and that's what makes her decision to launch her debut single-featuring will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas unique.

Basking in the positive reviews about her performance in her latest film, PC is glad to have finally entered the realm of music to make her sweet little contribution. In a tĂȘte-a-tĂȘte with CS, the actress speaks about her musical journey,

    American connection
It was great working with will.i am. He's one of the most talented musicians on the planet right now. He just knows how to make a hit. Also, he's a great personality and I take delight in the fact that I got to collaborate with someone like him on my debut musical effort.

    Singing byte
The genre I'm most comfortable singing in is English Pop. Perhaps that's also the reason why I haven't sung for a film yet. During my school days, I was trained in Western Classical. Having said that, I might sing for a film someday.

    All about me
This album was a year-and-half in the making. All the songs reflect something about my own experiences, be it as a 18-year-old who was crowned Miss World or someone who entered the film industry later.

It has something about the nomadic years I had as a part of my childhood since my dad is from the Army. We used to keep shifting from one place to another which included spending four years in the US.

    Musical influence
I'm a fan of music. My taste is very eclectic and I listen and appreciate everyone from Ghulam Alisaab to Rafi, Ashaji to Lataji to Sunidhi. On the international level, I admire and enjoy everybody from Tupac Shukar to The Notorious B.I.G to U2.

    No plans please
Whenever I plan something, something else happens. It's as if God laughs at my plans! So I just go with the flow and live one day at a time and try to accomplish as much as I can today than wait for tomorrow to happen.

    Sagarika's Ganesha Love

  • Sagarika`s Ganesha Love

Dressed in a bright red sari, actor Sagarika Ghatge looks resplendent when CS met her at a Ganpati pandal.

With Ganesh Chaturthi starting from today, it's time to celebrate the traditions. Sagarika tells CS, `I love Lord Ganesha. He looks so benevolent in any form. I love the fact that he's often modelled in different forms like a writer, tabla player or musician.`

    Deva oh deva
Being a Maharashtrian, Lord Ganesha is the favourite deity of my home. We don't keep an idol in our Mumbai home but there's a big family puja at our ancestral home in Kolhapur. My mother is a firm believer of Lord Ganesha, and so am I. There have been periods in my life when I felt down and out. And whenever I have prayed to him, he has found out a way for me.

    Modak mania
I have a huge sweet tooth. I really crave modaks, specially the fried ones. As a kid, I used to wait patiently for the time when the aarti would get over and I would get a modak to eat. My favourite is the traditional one made of rice flour and coconut filling. I also enjoyed modaks from different homes as each tasted different.

    Gana bajaana
The aarti is another aspect of the festival that really attracts me. Every year, I go to the homes of my close friends and family friends to attend aarti. I think being part of an aarti is a blessing as it's so uplifting. Sukhkarta Dukhharta is the one I love.

    Pandal hopping
Last year, I visited the idol at Lalbaug. The enormity of the festivities was really mesmerising. I really consider myself lucky that I got to see the idol with comparative ease. I also visit the Andhericharaja Pandal as it's the closest to my house. If I get an opportunity, I would like to see Pune's famous Dagduseth Ganpati.

    Favourite memory
My favourite memory of Ganpati celebrations is one of the Visarjan. When I was a six-year-old kid, my maid and the boy who used to look after me used to carry me on their shoulders and show me the Ganpati processions. The singing, dancing, rains and the crowd - the atmosphere was magical.
